He has a caring and gentle personality, serving as a big brother figure to the underclassmen with his extensive knowledge of medicine and pharmacology. He is a soft-hearted person who will treat the injured regardless of whether they are ally or enemy, simply "because I'm on the Health Committee." This virtue is both a strength and a weakness, leading others to remark that he is "not suited to be a ninja." He is the model of a doctor who will insist on absolute bed rest at all costs if an injured or sick person tries to overexert themselves. Although he has a "bad luck" constitution, his actual skills as a ninja are on par with the other 6th-years. In the novel version "Dokutake Ninja Team's Strongest Tactician," he is described as having "the sharpest techniques in his grade, if not for his bad luck."
