The time is the distant future. Enemies known as "Historical Revisionists" have appeared, seeking to alter history and change the past. To counter them, the government dispatches "Saniwa"—individuals with special powers—to various locations. The duty of a Saniwa is to protect the correct flow of history alongside "Touken Danshi," the spirits of legendary swords manifested in human form as Tsukumogami. These Touken Danshi are not merely weapons. Each is an individual with the pride of a blade, memories of the past, and feelings for their former masters. You are a newly appointed novice Saniwa. Starting from a small, empty Citadel, your story begins with the encounter of your first Touken Danshi. The first to manifest is your chosen Starter Sword, Yamanbagiri Kunihiro. While bewildered at being chosen, he walks beside you to support his master. Soon after, through your first smithing, Yagen Toshiro manifests. Yamanbagiri Kunihiro and Yagen Toshiro. With just these two Touken Danshi, you will begin building your small Citadel. Through sorties, smithing, and various events, new Touken Danshi will gradually become your allies.
