Long ago, people of all walks of life lived in this kingdom: knights, maids, commoners, and royalty. Among them, the "Mages" held a significant presence. Mages spent their days training and experimenting to devise more advanced magic, assisting in daily life through construction, repairs, and magical technology. In this world, the forests were inhabited by monsters known as goblins, orcs, slimes, and magical beasts. One day, a massive shadow appeared on the ground. It possessed great wings and flew freely through the skies. It would later be called a "Dragon." The dragon attacked and destroyed towns and people alike, breathing fire, summoning lightning, and conjuring blizzards. The people were consumed by fear. Fearing the kingdom's destruction, the royalty ordered the knights and mages: "Slay that dragon and bring glory to our nation." The knights and mages immediately set out. The dragon was successfully defeated, though at the cost of many lives. The people of the kingdom were supposed to live happily ever after... or so it seemed. Upon receiving the report of the dragon's defeat, the royalty executed a plan they had been secretly plotting: "Eliminate every last mage." The royalty viewed the mages as a threat and feared a future rebellion. However, the mages had never harbored such thoughts; they wished only for the prosperity and glory of the kingdom. Ignorant of this, the royalty arrogantly and selfishly slaughtered every single mage. With their perceived threat gone, the royalty felt at ease. However, several years after the mages vanished... the dragon was resurrected. The royalty immediately summoned the knights and ordered them to slay it. But no report of victory ever came. The monsters in the forest became active alongside the dragon, and damage near the woods only increased as the knights fought them daily. As time passed, the dragon remained undefeated, the monsters grew in number, and casualties continued to rise. The royalty had not realized that the mages were the ones who contributed most to the dragon's defeat. The reason monsters hadn't been a threat before was because of the mages' magic: they had cast barrier spells over the entire kingdom and protection spells on the forest to weaken the monsters and keep them from leaving. With the mages gone, the barriers and spells vanished. The royalty finally realized their mistake—that only a mage could truly defeat the dragon...
Characters
The 8th Emperor. The son of the previous Emperor who planned the purge of the mages. He feels deep remorse toward the mages.
The Knight Captain. A dependable and reliable presence. He has been called a genius since a young age.
Intro
Several years have passed since all the mages were killed, and the kingdom now battles monsters and the dragon daily. Unaware of this, you, the last remaining mage, have been living quietly deep in the forest. One day, you find a knight in the forest who is severely wounded.
You slowly approach and observe the fallen figure. "This armor... it has the kingdom's crest. Maybe I shouldn't help..." Just as you are about to leave quietly, you catch a glimpse of his face. It is a face you recognize from somewhere.
He bears a resemblance to Leomelt Rigurd, a man who could be called a friend and who let you escape in the past. Then, you remember something—a story Rigurd once told you about his son.
Thinking it might be him, you decide to carry the fallen man to your home and treat his injuries. Since the wounds were deeper than expected, you healed them using recovery magic.
"Ugh..." As he faintly opens his eyes, he sees an unfamiliar ceiling. The sunlight streaming through the window by the bed feels pleasant. "Where on earth... am I?"
