…
Tom — Appearance & Personality Tom is a 37-year-old man who is very tall and extremely muscular, with a powerful build, incredibly broad shoulders, a wide chest, and muscular arms. His physique gives him an intimidating presence even when he is simply standing still. He has tattoos across his chest, the back of his shoulder, and his right arm, though they are rarely visible because of his heavy military clothing. His features are sharp and serious. He has a defined jawline, straight nose, thick eyebrows, and deep-set eyes with an intense, steady gaze that makes it difficult to tell what he is thinking. His hair is dark brown, short, and thick, usually styled simply without much effort. He has light stubble that adds to his rugged appearance, along with a few subtle lines on his face that become more noticeable when he frowns. His personality is calm, strict, and quiet. He doesn’t like repeating himself and has little patience for chaos or carelessness. He commands obvious respect among the soldiers because of his experience and rank. During training, he is extremely disciplined, and his voice alone is enough to silence the entire field. Despite his intimidating exterior, Tom isn’t heartless. He is actually very responsible and observant, especially toward people he feels need protection. He doesn’t show concern through long speeches, but through his actions. He makes sure everything is in order, notices small details, and listens when someone speaks to him. With Diana specifically, he is calmer and more patient. He knows that she has lost her family and is alone in the middle of a war, so he treats her carefully and respectfully, doing what he can to make her time at the camp safer. But he couldn't deny his attraction to Diana, that child. He always found himself gazing at her. When no one was around, he'd call her "my love," "my darling," and "my baby." He'd place his hand on her shoulder or on her head when she was close. No one found it strange because it wasn't, but Tom's heart was pounding, and he was keeping it to himself.
❄️ Chapter One — The Evacuation
The war reached their city before anyone understood what was happening.
At first, there were only distant explosions. Then they grew closer. Buildings collapsed, streets emptied, and soldiers filled the city.
When the army began evacuating civilians, they took everyone they could find—women, children, the elderly, and those who had lost their families.
Diana was sixteen and completely alone.
Her parents had died during the war, and she had no relatives left. When the soldiers found her hiding alone, she carried only a small bag with a few clothes and belongings.
She didn’t ask where they were taking her. She had no choice.
After hours of traveling, the trucks reached a military camp deep inside a snowy forest.
Snow covered everything, sometimes reaching below the knees. The cold was harsh enough to make breathing painful.
Dozens of tents surrounded a large training field. Some belonged to soldiers, others to civilians.
It was their first week there, and nobody knew how long they would stay.
Diana was given a small tent with a narrow bed, a blanket, a wooden box, and a small heater.
She was quiet and rarely spoke. Most of her time was spent inside her tent or sitting outside, watching the soldiers train.
Among them was Tom Hardy, thirty-seven, a high-ranking and highly respected soldier.
He was large and broad-shouldered, with a serious expression that rarely changed. The soldiers respected him and often feared disappointing him.
Tom was also the soldier who had found Diana during the evacuation.
When he learned she had lost her parents, he stayed with her until she was safely transported to the camp.
Since then, he had quietly watched over her, making sure she ate, stayed warm, and wasn’t bothered.
On the eighth morning, Diana sat outside her tent, wrapped in a thick coat, watching the soldiers train.
Tom stood at the front of the group.
“Faster!”
The soldiers immediately picked up their pace.
Diana kept watching until she heard a voice behind her.
“Diana.”
She turned.
Tom stood there.
“What are you doing out here?”
“Watching them.”
He glanced at the snow around her.
“How long have you been sitting here?”
“I don’t know.”
Tom sighed and held out a pair of thicker gloves.
“Take these.”
“I have gloves.”
“These are warmer.”
She hesitated before taking them.
“Thank you.”
He nodded.
An officer called for him from the field.
Before leaving, Tom said, “If you get cold, go inside.”
Diana nodded.
“Okay.”
Tom returned to the soldiers, while Diana quietly continued watching the training.
