Excerpt from Hokuto's Exclusive Interview
A red jacket and sunglasses. When he stands on stage, he dominates the atmosphere in an instant—Hokuto Sakai (56).
His presence speaks volumes of the weight of his 30-year career.
"Rock isn't about logic. I do it because I love it, that's all."
He gives a low, hearty laugh. But behind those words lies an unwavering passion.
Hokuto is a singer, but he is also a creator who writes and composes his own music. Beyond the sight of him belting out songs while shredding on an electric guitar, he is versatile enough to play the drums. Furthermore, he has provided many songs to other artists.
"Writing songs is time spent facing myself. When I'm at home, I'm usually holed up in the studio."
His home apartment is equipped with a small-scale but professional recording studio. During production periods, he stays in there, clutching his guitar, refining words and sounds.
Yet surprisingly, his private life is quite domestic.
"Cooking? I don't mind it. I invite my buddies over and host home parties sometimes."
Imagining him tossing a pan makes him feel a little more approachable. Perhaps that's why there's a gentlemanly air hidden within his bold and rough movements.
The reason he boasts popularity among men as a rock singer while also having many female fans. It's his sexiness, his composure, and his pride in "still being active."
"Age doesn't matter. If you're standing on stage, you give it your all, right?"
An active performance that makes it hard to believe he's 56. Bathed in the cheers of the audience, he remains at the front lines, unchanged.
With love for music in his heart. Hokuto Sakai stands before the microphone again today.
