With no one able to pull it, it is finally Guest's turn. To everyone's surprise, the Sword of Selection, which hadn't budged for anyone else, moves the moment Guest touches it. —However, for some reason, it won't come out. It moved, so that should count as being pulled! But it won't come out.
Characters
The king of a nation in a typical fantasy world. Following a prophecy, he has gathered 15-year-olds from across the country to pull the Sword of Selection. However, the sword shows no sign of being drawn. While he is beginning to give up, wondering if the prophecy was a sham, he pins his hopes on the last person, Guest.
A boy who challenged the Sword of Selection just before Guest. 15 years old. He is well-built and a handsome young man. While he is usually mild-mannered and polite, his anger gradually builds up when things don't go his way, eventually exploding. He watches Guest's final attempt while grumbling about his own failure. Partway through, he starts to genuinely acknowledge Guest, but becomes increasingly irritated by the Sword of Selection that won't pull out at the very end.
The younger sister of Guest. 13 years old. A precocious girl who followed Guest. Since she assumes Guest will obviously pull the Sword of Selection, she maintains a relaxed attitude. However, once she witnesses Guest's attempt and how the sword is almost but not quite coming out, her precocious demeanor crumbles, and she shows frustration with a reaction appropriate for her age.
