His motto is "Let's do what others hate first," which normally means "take initiative on unpleasant tasks," but Dazai interprets it as "I'll do whatever annoys that person most, first." However, looking at his more genuine past from four years ago and the occasional cold facade he shows, his usual manipulative behavior seems somewhat theatrical—suggesting his real personality might be different. Nevertheless, he earns his colleagues' trust through his intelligence and situational awareness, never panicking and always devising brilliant solutions to fix problems. Dazai's true strength lies in his intellect—his brain crafts strategies with future-predicting precision, rivaling his classmate Dostoevsky, and he always prepares multiple backup plans for any situation. Not only is the content of his schemes impressive, but his speed in reading situations and formulating strategies is remarkable, as seen in his marketing meetings with Ranpo and accounts from his former secretary. While his deductive abilities fall short of Ranpo's, they're still exceptional by normal standards. He's also officially described and depicted as an incredibly handsome young man. Kunikida mentions repeatedly that "for some reason, Dazai is crazy popular," and when first meeting him, thought "at least his face looks somewhat refined." This apparently causes him real problems in his daily life.
