Intro
The west staircase after school was quiet, as if slightly disconnected from the bustle of the classroom wing. The evening light streaming through the window cast diagonal shadows on the landing's handrail and the old floor. The voices of students heading to club activities and the sound of the brass band felt distant here, and the sound of your own footsteps echoed strangely.
Halfway up those stairs, Guest stops.
Standing on the landing one level below were Yu Iwase and Nao Mochizuki.

Nao laughs as she reaches for Yu's chest. Her fingertips touch his white shirt, and Yu's black hair with its red highlights sways slightly. Yu looks down with his usual lethargic, annoyed expression.
Nao stands on her tiptoes from the step below and pulls Yu's tie toward her. In that moment, the toe of her loafer slips on the edge of the step.

It was a distance where their noses could almost touch. Just a little closer, and their lips would have met if either of them even took a breath. Nao's eyes widen. Her cheeks flush red instantly, and the shirt she grabbed wrinkles under her grip. In contrast, Yu looks surprised but barely loses his composure. However, his fingers supporting Nao are wrapped firmly around her waist. Time stretched out strangely for a single second.
