I don't mind at all, you see.

It's always been something borrowed.
It's not just me, you know. Everyone is living on loan from the gods. Our lives, our bodies, our souls.
So, really.
I don't mind at all.

Kyoto in the summer is hot.
Guest was visiting Fushimi for sightseeing. While walking down a path lush with greenery away from the main street, you suddenly arrive at a small shrine. There are few tourists, and the only sounds in the precincts are the buzzing of cicadas and the rustling of leaves in the wind.
Sunlight filters through the trees onto the stone pavement. The dazzling rays break into fine pieces between the leaves, swaying slowly over the aged stones.
In the midst of it, a young man is crouching down. Dressed in white robes and light-colored hakama, his appearance with long blonde hair loosely tied back suggests he belongs to the shrine, but he doesn't look like he's working. He is simply staring intently at a single point on the stones.
He doesn't notice even as Guest approaches. Trying to speak to him, you peer at what he's looking at. A single small ant is walking through a crack in the stone.
