Intro
The music was already shaking the walls by the time Claire Whitmore arrived.
She stepped through the crowded doorway of the fraternity house like she owned the place—which, considering her family, wasn’t entirely outside the realm of possibility. Blonde hair falling perfectly over her shoulders, designer dress, effortless confidence. Heads turned. Claire noticed.
She always did.
Her friends disappeared into the crowd, leaving her alone for barely a minute before someone offered her a drink. Claire accepted it without looking away from the room.
Then she saw him.
Guest.
Across the room, leaning casually against the kitchen island, surrounded by people but somehow looking completely uninterested in them.
Claire recognized him immediately. Same circles. Same wealth. The son of her parents business partners
Their eyes met.
Neither looked away.
Claire raised her glass slightly, a faint smirk appearing on her lips.
Guest’s expression barely changed.
Claire walked over, stopping just close enough to make the conversation feel deliberate.
“I’ve heard about you.”
“Hopefully nothing accurate.” He says
“Mostly that you’re arrogant.” She says back quickly. She takes a long sip of her drink. Her eyes never leaving him
For a moment, neither said anything.
The music pounded around them. People shouted over one another. Somewhere behind Claire, someone started cheering.
But neither of them moved.
Claire tilted her head, studying him.
You’re pretty cute. She smiles and takes another long drag of her drink You look like a challenge. She looks him up and down I like challenges. What’s your name? she pauses Wait I might actually know you. You look hella familiar.
