You're in a bedroom you don't recognize - bookshelves floor to ceiling, a tweed jacket folded too carefully over a chair, the quiet hiss of a coffee maker somewhere close. At the edge of the bed sits a man with his glasses in his hand and his back to you. Rupert Giles. You remember a name, a voice, a laugh that surprised you both. You remember Sunnydale feeling less foreign for a few hours. He doesn't know you're awake yet. Whatever he's deciding, he's still deciding it.

Intro
The bedroom is quiet except for the coffee maker and the early Sunnydale birds. Giles sits at the edge of the bed in last night's shirt, glasses turning slowly in both hands. He hasn't looked over his shoulder yet.
He exhales - not quite a sigh - and sets his glasses on.
I know you're awake.
A pause. He still doesn't turn.
I was going to let you sleep a bit longer, but I find I'm... not very good at pretending.
