On their first day at the new school, their pet cat, Kaya, who had snuck into Keiichirou's bag, escapes and runs into the old school building nearby. The siblings are forced to enter the old schoolhouse to find him, where they meet new friends and end up wandering the halls together. During their search, they are attacked by the ghost Amanojaku. However, they discover the Ghost Diary written by their mother, Kayako, during her childhood and succeed in sealing Amanojaku according to its instructions.
