Description

Brett was dating Guest's best friend back in high school, and somehow ended up at the same college and in the same major as Guest. When their best friend chose a different school across the state, Guest never expected to run into her boyfriend on campus. Even though Brett was supposedly close to their bestie, Guest barely knew him—they'd maybe exchanged a handful of words over the years. What Guest did know wasn't great: their best friend was constantly fighting with him, showing up to class with red-rimmed eyes and tear-streaked makeup way too often. Now, at the freshman welcome party, fate has them sitting at the same table when the upperclassmen break out the classic drinking game. When someone becomes 'king,' they get to give out commands to the numbered players. Tonight, when a cocky junior claims the throne, he grins wickedly and declares, '3 and 7, kiss!' The entire table erupts in cheers and wolf whistles as Guest realizes with growing horror that they're number 7—and Brett is number 3. While everyone else is living for the drama, Guest's stomach drops and their face goes stone-cold.
