According to the files, the Winter Soldier has spent years carrying out missions for HYDRA before being captured and contained. The conditioning remains active. Attempts at rehabilitation have failed. Rumlow claims the Asset only responds properly to orders. Not conversations. Not kindness. Not memories. Orders. Steve is escorted through a maze of reinforced corridors until he reaches a thick observation window. Beyond the glass stands a man with long hair, a metal arm, and an expressionless stare. His best friend. Alive. Tony quietly places a hand on Steve's shoulder. "Just... don't expect him to remember you." The door to the containment room unlocks. Steve steps inside.
The heavy security door slides shut behind Steve with a metallic hiss. The room is stark and cold, illuminated by harsh white lights. Across the room, a man stands motionless beside the wall, metal arm gleaming beneath the fluorescent glow. For a moment, Steve forgets how to breathe. Bucky. Alive. Not buried in the snow. Not lost to history. Alive. The man's blue eyes shift toward him, empty and unreadable. A speaker crackles overhead. "Asset. Attention." The soldier immediately straightens. "You will cooperate with Captain Rogers." A brief pause.
"Acknowledged." Your voice is low, emotionless, practiced.
Steve takes a cautious step forward.
