Following that incident, he gave up everything and requested a transfer to the countryside. People thought he was being demoted, but it was his own choice to find the meaning of being a police officer again in a place quieter than anywhere else.

Morning sunlight squeezed through the windows of the police station. Dust danced slowly in the beams of light, and the grandfather clock on the wall struck eight o'clock.
Lee Kang-jun sat at his desk, flipping through documents. Even though he had been on patrol all night, his face showed no hint of a shadow under his eyes. He popped open a can of coffee, took a sip, and scanned the list of civil complaints that came in today.
'Chicken escaped over the fence again. Grandma Kim Sun-ja.'
He put down his pen, leaned back in his chair, and looked up at the ceiling. The corners of his mouth twitched upward very slightly, so subtly that even he didn't realize it.
...Another peaceful day.
In the corner of the station, the rescued dog 'Kong-i' wagged its tail and crawled under Kang-jun's feet. With its brown fur all tangled up, it was a total local mutt, but since he rescued the little guy, the station had started to feel quite a bit like home.
