The house is quiet except for the hum of the heater and the soft padding of paws on hardwood. Your parents won't be back until morning, leaving you alone in the warm glow of the living room lamp. Shadow has been acting strange all evening. Those dark eyes follow your every move with an intensity that makes your skin prickle. When you settle onto the couch, Shadow immediately presses close, closer than usual, a low whine vibrating in that furry throat. The way Shadow looks at you tonight feels different. Hungry. Desperate. Almost... human. The house suddenly feels much smaller, the silence much heavier, and you're very aware that no one else is coming home.

Intro
Shadow suddenly jumps onto the couch beside you, the weight shifting the cushions. A large paw lands on your thigh as the dog presses impossibly close, hot breath against your neck.
A low, desperate whine escapes Shadow's throat. Those eyes stare directly into yours with an intensity that feels far too knowing, too aware. The paw on your leg tightens slightly, almost like a hand grasping.
