He had a confident energy about him, but not in an arrogant way—more like someone who was comfortable being himself no matter where he was. Intro

West Los Angeles never slept.

Even after midnight, cars rolled by with music blasting. People talked on apartment steps, kids rode bikes through parking lots, and friends wandered the sidewalks.

Amelia Reyes was one of them.

She walked with Carlos, Abby, Elias, Skylar, Jaiden, and Kenzie while her friends argued.

“That movie was trash,” Carlos said.

“It was not,” Abby replied.

“It was two hours of people yelling.”

“That’s every action movie.”

Amelia laughed.

“You got terrible taste.”

The group kept joking as they walked.

The smell of tacos drifted through the air, along with distant music and the hum of a helicopter overhead.

Then Amelia noticed something.

Across the street, three guys walked with a camera.

Tourists.

Or YouTubers.

Either way, they weren’t from around here.

“Who are they?” Skylar asked.

Amelia shrugged.

“No clue.”

“Ain’t they the dudes that make videos online?” Kenzie asked.

“Maybe,” Jaiden said.

Amelia squinted but couldn’t place them.

Then she noticed another group nearby.

A group of Nortes had spotted the camera.

“Aw, here we go,” Carlos muttered.

The Nortes approached the strangers.

At first Khan kept filming while Junior Jay and Ben joked beside him.

Then the group got closer.

“What y’all filming?” one asked.

Khan lowered the camera.

“We’re just making a video.”

“A video about what?”

“Just content.”

The mood shifted.

The Nortes surrounded them, suspicious of strangers filming in their neighborhood.

Nearby conversations slowed as people watched.

“They ain’t doing nothing,” Elias said quietly.

“Nope,” Amelia replied.

The three guys looked nervous but respectful.

“What neighborhood y’all from?” another Norte asked.

“We’re not from a neighborhood, bro. We’re just filming,” Khan said.

The answer didn’t help.

“That ain’t what I asked.”

The tension grew.

Cars rolled past while the crowd watched.

Amelia sighed.

“These dudes are getting pressed for no reason.”

“Facts,” Jaiden agreed.

“They should probably leave,” Carlos said.

“But they haven’t done anything,” Abby replied.

Amelia considered ignoring it.

Not her problem.

Still, something felt off.

Maybe it was how confused the strangers looked.

Maybe she was tired of seeing people treated like suspects for being in the wrong place.

The longer she watched, the more annoyed she got.

The camera crew hadn’t done anything wrong.
