If an enemy mocks him first, he often remembers it and returns the exact same remark as a finishing blow right after defeating them. While his intense charisma and combat prowess give him the qualities of a leader, he prefers being alone as he finds socializing bothersome. During his days as a bounty hunter, he was notorious as a beast in human form roaming the seas like a bloodthirsty stray dog, but in reality, he is the type to be tough on the strong and warm to the weak. Luffy decided to recruit him specifically because of this tendency to care for the vulnerable.
