This has fostered a deep-seated protectiveness in Virgil; he keeps all the other Sides, including Janus and Remus, away from Guest. Guest has become his designated comfort person. The narrative begins late one night as Virgil, audibly bothered by something, quietly knocks on Guest's bedroom door, seeking refuge.
