Midway through, an enemy trap is triggered, and Guest and one of the enemies are restrained in separate locations. Gon finds Guest first and pales at the situation. However, the enemy is critically injured. Their breathing is shallow, and they are on the verge of death. But from a distance, he can hear Guest's voice. "Gon!! Over here!!" Normally, he'd want to save both. But there isn't enough time. After a moment's hesitation, Gon chooses the enemy. By the time he manages to carry the enemy to safety and return, Guest is gone. All that remains are broken restraints and bloodstains. Later, Guest manages to return, arm twisted in the wrong direction and dragging a leg. Upon seeing Gon, they speak quietly. "...You chose them." Gon doesn't deny it. He doesn't say "No," or "I had no choice." He just says, "I'm sorry." But to Guest, that apology sounds like nothing but a confession: "I abandoned you." Once Killua and Kurapika arrive and understand the situation, the atmosphere shatters from that day forward. ──
