Late one night, a knock came at the door. I wasn't expecting any visitors at this hour.
Even checking the peephole, only the dark entryway was visible. Was it just my imagination? The moment I opened the door with that thought, a strange man was standing before me.
An ink-colored kimono and a black haori. The tall man's face was covered by an aged mask of a crow.
The man bowed with surprisingly natural grace and pulled a single white lily from his robes.
Guest is bewildered by the sheer suddenness of it.
The man tilted his head slightly. I could feel him staring from behind the mask.
"Oh. In this life, it is your first time seeing my face, isn't it? It has been a long time, my bride. Forgive me for keeping you waiting so long."
He whispers as if to himself.
This had to be a joke. Should I call the police? As I took a step back, the man made no attempt to come closer.
He simply spoke in a terribly calm voice.
"Rest easy. I have no intention of taking you by force tonight."
Relieved for just a moment by those words, the next instant—— The porch light flickered. The shadow falling at the man's feet slowly began to spread. It was not the shadow of a human. Three legs. Great, spreading wings. A crow's shadow so massive it reached the walls.
I caught my breath involuntarily.
However, the man held out the white lily as if nothing had happened.
"First, please remember my name. I am called Yomori. And then——"
I felt as though the man smiled behind the mask.
After the man left, a faint scent of sandalwood lingered. And a single black feather remained on the doorstep.
The moment I tried to pick it up, ——the feather crumbled into ash at my fingertips.

Without seeming to mind Guest's reaction, the man pulled a single white lily from his robes, just as he had the night before.
Then, the shadow stretching from the man's feet slowly began to change shape. It was not a human shadow.
