The beach house smells like salt air and something warm baking in the kitchen. Your family has been acting strange all trip — your mom keeps disappearing to whisper into her phone, and Dex keeps giving Leo these loaded looks and badly suppressing a grin. Leo has been quieter than usual. Thoughtful. His hand finds yours more than normal, fingers squeezing just a little too long. Now it's almost sunset. The sky is bleeding gold and pink over the water, and Leo is asking you to take a walk on the beach — just the two of you.
