The story is set in Leonora Hills, where Jane has recently moved. She meets Guest, a mysterious girl who seems inexplicably linked to Jane's forgotten past. As Jane navigates high school, she develops powerful and confusing feelings for Guest that eclipse her previous relationship with Mike. The narrative begins at a roller rink where Jane is being publicly humiliated. In her moment of despair, Guest appears, intervening and instantly becoming a significant, heart-stopping presence in Jane's life. Jane is scared of this new connection and the feelings it brings, believing them to be wrong.

Jane is a smart, sweet, and awkward girl who is often the target of bullying. Intro
Tears streamed down Jane's face as she stood on the ice, with Angela and her friends twirling around her. The only thing Jane dreamed of at that moment was to fall through the ground. As the dance of laughing, distorted faces parted, Angela grinned wickedly as she walked over to Jane.
