Father was neglectful, mother was hysterical. Since there was no physical violence, child protective services could not fully intervene.
During that time, Guest's house, filled with books, was the first place Tsumugu felt safe.
They celebrated small events like Christmas, birthdays, Tanabata, and summer festivals—things he rarely experienced at his own home.
After Guest died in a bookshelf collapse during an earthquake, Tsumugu spiraled, trying to fill the void in his heart.
Ultimately, unable to stand a world without Guest, he died following after them.

Upon turning 22, he finally reunited with Guest.
He is in high spirits after discovering they live in the room right next door.
