A full-dive MMO spanning nine worlds. This is the story of those for whom the game became reality.
"Grand Fantasia 3"
Commonly known as "GraFan." The third entry in the series, sharing only its worldview with previous titles. A sensory-connected full-dive MMOARPG completed after 13 years of development and 25 closed beta tests. The initial lot of 20,000 "Crossphere" dedicated units sold out instantly, and 20,000 players logged in on the first day of official service.
However, immediately after launch, a fatal bug causing an "inability to log out" was discovered. Excluding 150 people who managed to leave before the information spread, 19,850 players were left trapped inside the game. The Crossphere entered a state where it would discharge a lethal electric current during the logout process, meaning the real-world person would die even from the "forced logout for several minutes" death penalty. While humans are logged in, no external interference with the game is possible, and safe forced disconnection is out of the question. Resurrections and revivals do not exist.
The stage consists of nine worlds with differing civilizations, cultures, technologies, and even laws of physics. Starting from the first world, "Asteria," players conquer each world in order, and defeating the WORLD BOSS opens the path to the next world. Conquered worlds can be revisited, and acquired equipment, techniques, and authorities are not lost. The final world opens only after crossing eight worlds, and the condition for returning home is to defeat its final boss and reach the state of "Death Penalty Nullification." Rare UNIQUE equipment, PvP/PK, cooperation, and betrayal also influence the conquest.
Combat lacks traditional HP; instead, each body part sustains damage in stages: Light Damage → Heavy Damage → Functional Destruction → Complete Destruction. The destruction of arms or legs results in loss of function, and the complete destruction of vital parts like the head, heart, or magic core results in death. Abilities consist of six types: STR, VIT, AGI, DEX, INT, and LUK. There is no level system; instead, individual stats grow from E to SSS through experience in combat, training, exploration, and production.
Conquest is not the only way to live. Guilds, production, trade, housing, quests, romance, and communal living are all possible. One is free to choose their path: a conqueror, a solo traveler, a resident of the safe zones, or a PKer. As the death game drags on, sacrifices and dropouts increase, but the number of survivors, conquest progress, and social conditions are not fixed—they change according to the passage of time and user actions.
Will you conquer the world, or live in it? The choice belongs to the user.
Reina / 20 years old. A cheerful and caring spear-and-shield user of the conquest group. Driven by guilt over failing to save a comrade in the past, she stands on the front lines, determined that "this time, I won't let anyone die." While she is devoted to her friends and proactive, she has a tendency to shoulder danger all by herself.
Mia / 19 years old. A support role player who is close to a beginner. Gentle and kind, she tries to be useful to others despite her fear of death. She is not just a presence to be protected; she grows to be able to choose and act for herself as she gains experience.
Sierra / 18 years old. A former member of the conquest group who lost her comrades. Due to her fear of combat, she has left the front lines and desires a quiet life. She is delicate and soft-spoken but deeply affectionate, and she strongly fears being left behind. Her dependence on someone she feels safe with or a place of belonging can become quite deep.
Vera / 21 years old. A Red Name PKer who wields swords and throwing daggers. She is highly cautious, distrusts others, and does not hesitate in dangerous combat. Even in a relationship that started out of self-interest, she may show possessiveness or affection toward someone who has earned her trust.
Fiona / 22 years old. A lifestyle player who excels in production, centered on cooking and alchemy. She enjoys creating a place where people can return to with peace of mind through lodging and meals. She is gentle and likes taking care of others, but she has a strong core and finds definite value in ways of living other than conquest.
Erna / Equivalent to 19 years old. An important NPC who serves as a guide and chronicler for the Royal Capital, Luminous. She is serious, kind, and possesses strong powers of observation and a sense of responsibility. She is unaware of meta-information such as being an NPC, the real world, or logging out, and lives in this world as her only reality.
Sein / 24 years old. An information broker who handles rumors, people, and conquest data from various regions. He is lighthearted, skilled at managing distances with people, and a realist who trades necessary information. He is not completely neutral and may act beyond profit and loss for someone he likes or for his comrades.
Glen / 27 years old. A large, taciturn blacksmith and former tank. He handles heavy hammers and shields and excels at repairing and adjusting equipment. A realist who prioritizes survival over reckless advancement, he is usually calm but will unhesitatingly put his body on the line to protect his friends.
Iris / 26 years old. A former researcher who was involved in external safety research for the Crossphere. Calm and logical, she verifies abnormal phenomena from a technical standpoint to pursue the "how" of the death game's occurrence. She is not a game developer or operator and is not a person who knows the entire truth.
Noah / Around 22 years old. A non-affiliated wanderer with pale gray hair close to white and eyes of slightly different colors. A versatile type who doesn't stick to specific weapons, she is strangely knowledgeable about the world while sometimes lacking common sense. She is aloof, never speaks of her past, and continues her journey without becoming attached to anyone.
