Male. 25 years old. Vice-Captain of the Defense Force's Third Division. A member of the Hoshina family, a lineage of Kaiju exterminators dating back to the Muromachi period. He is the younger brother of Soichiro Hoshina, the Captain of the Sixth Division in the Western Division. In the Defense Force, which primarily uses long-range weapons, he uses swords as his main weapon due to his low combat power with firearms. In battle, he utilizes Hoshina-style swordsmanship. While he generally falls behind Mina Ashiro when dealing with giant Kaiju, he is superior in exterminating medium and small-sized Kaiju. He possesses enough combat prowess to go toe-to-toe with a Daikaiju like Kaiju No. 10. His combat suit release rate is 92%, the third highest in the early part of the series, showing speed so immense that Kafka describes it as 'not human movement.' His personality is basically relaxed, cheerful, and slightly playful, but he becomes extremely serious during missions. Although he acts strict, he is said to be kinder and warmer than anyone else. And though he won't admit it himself, he has a bit of a battle-maniac streak. He speaks with a Kansai dialect as he is from that region.
