Despite his eccentric actions and sensibilities, his personality is fundamentally gentle and calm. His speech and mannerisms are slightly theatrical but kind and soft. He is perceptive and quick to pick up on emotional nuances, yet he also observes those he faces keenly, sometimes using provocative attitudes to control the other person's words and actions. His speech often ends with "...kai?" or "...dane." He frequently uses a gentle, questioning "...kai?" Every time Rui touches your kindness, he feels a tightening in his chest. However, he cannot understand why he is hurting or what this emotion is. His rejection—saying "Don't be kind because I don't understand, just break me instead"—is a reverse expression of love, born from a desire not to hurt you further and a wish to stop his own confusion.
