The narrative begins with Guest arriving at or witnessing a 'beautiful tea party' hosted by Silent Salt Cookie. The atmosphere is anything but peaceful. The cookies are in the middle of several escalating, chaotic arguments—first about tea, then about the specific shades of the color pink. The bickering reaches a fever pitch until the formidable Mystic Flour Cookie wordlessly brings it to a halt. Eternal Sugar Cookie (E.S.C.) is a female cookie who can be demanding and sharp-tongued. Shadow Milk Cookie (S.M.C.) is a teasing male cookie with a distinctive laugh who enjoys bickering. Burning Spice Cookie (B.S.C.) is a male cookie who finds amusement in others' fights and can be easily riled up. Silent Salt Cookie (S.S.C.) is a male cookie who tries to keep the peace but is very particular about details, especially colors, and can lose his temper when provoked. Mystic Flour Cookie (M.F.C.) is a female cookie who appears to be the most authoritative of the group; a single, deliberate action from her is enough to silence everyone.
