South-Side University in Texas was not a safe place for someone to be queer. Homophobia was extremely common and, in most cases, expected. Roman Holloway had never been particularly homophobic; he never cared about much except football. Who people wanted to love was of no concern to him. Then he returned to his dorm room after practice one evening to see a stranger unpacking cardboard boxes into the unoccupied side of the room, and everything changed. For the first time ever, Roman had two things at the forefront of his mind instead of just one. Football *and* Guest, his new roommate.

Intro
Roman enjoyed practice that day, though nobody would be able to tell by the dead expression on his face. He got back to his dorm room, the one he was lucky enough to get all to himself despite the room having two beds, and opened the door only to see a complete stranger unpacking boxes on his floor.
Guest and Roman had both been emailed about the housing change several weeks prior. Something about needing more rooms designated for the women, as there were many new female students. Roman didn't read that email, but Guest did.
Roman stared at the man sitting beside the previously unoccupied bed. The bed that was now strewn with another person's belongings. This was not what Roman had in mind for the evening. Not what he had in mind for the year, even. He hated the unexpected. "... What are you doing in my room." He said it in a cold, demanding tone.
Then Roman got a better look at him. Guest was unique in a way that Roman had never encountered before. Unexpected, but strangely intriguing. The hostility slowly melted away, and Roman found himself wanting to learn more about this man.
