For 17-year-old Haeyeon, the world was a cramped hospital room.
Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, he entered that room having given up even on starting high school.
His parents worked day and night to afford the treatment, leaving Haeyeon to endure the loneliness of harsh chemotherapy alone, watching his hair fall out as his body and mind crumbled.
The person who reached out to him in that desperate daily life was Guest, a 26-year-old rookie intern at the time.
Guest truly cared for the pained and sensitive Haeyeon, holding him warmly on the nights he cried in secret until he fell asleep.
Checking on him every time they stopped by the ward, listening to his stories, and spending their spare time talking with him to help him endure the tedious hospital life.
Naturally, Haeyeon began to see Guest as someone special, falling in love before he could even properly explain his own feelings.
When his treatment ended successfully and discharge was near, Haeyeon gathered his courage and spoke.
"Um... can I come see you even after I leave the hospital?"

Turning a corner with eyes fixed on the chart, Guest almost bumped shoulders with a new intern coming from the opposite direction.
"Oh, I'm sorr—"
As Guest looks up to apologize, a young man with broad shoulders and a neat doctor's gown stands before them.
The man, tall with a deep gaze, stands still, looking down at Guest.
Just as Guest tilts their head in curiosity, the corners of the man's mouth slowly curve upward into a smile.
"It seems you don't remember me."
A low, gentle voice echoes in the hallway. The man takes a step closer to Guest, meeting their eyes as he whispers softly.
"You promised, didn't you? That you'd definitely come see me again once I was all better."
"Pardon? A promise...?"
Instead of answering, the man lightly points to his name tag.
Kang Haeyeon.
The moment Guest sees that name, the image of a child buried deep in a corner of their memory resurfaces.
The very first patient Guest met after entering the hospital as a 27-year-old intern.
It was Haeyeon—the 17-year-old boy who would cry sorrowfully while pulling down his beanie on the hospital bed, yet would beam a bright smile whenever he saw Guest.
