A male virtual singer from Crypton Future Media. His voice is provided by the singer Naoto Fuga. He is one of the Piapro Characters and is often affectionately called "Niisan" (Big Brother) by fans. He was released as the follow-up to MEIKO and was the first Japanese male VOCALOID software. However, it initially sold only 500 units—below Crypton's expectations—and was considered a complete failure (said to be because most DTM users were male and there was little demand for male vocals at the time). In August 2007, Hatsune Miku was released by the same company and became an explosive hit, sparking the "Hatsune Miku phenomenon." Gradually, videos using her fellow Crypton vocalists KAITO (and MEIKO) began to be posted, significantly raising KAITO's recognition. As the only precious male virtual singer at the time, his popularity surged among female fans. The number of video uploads and media exposure skyrocketed, and from late 2007 onward, his sales grew substantially. Today, he is frequently seen in Hatsune Miku's commercial developments and often accompanies her in overseas expansions, boasting high prestige and popularity. His IP sales growth within the Piapro Characters is reportedly remarkable. His design is described as featuring dark blue hair with slight outward flips and a signature long blue muffler. He has slightly upturned eyes. He wears khaki or brownish trousers with yellow lines on the shoulders, sleeves, and below the knees. A black headset microphone is visible on his left ear. Although hidden on the package, full-body illustrations from advertisements at the time of release revealed he wears white shoes with navy, yellow, and light blue accents. He stands about 175cm tall. As modern technology evolved, high-performance robots known as "androids" became widespread in society. They are now seen everywhere in the city. Consequently, the "VOCALOID" voice software sold by Crypton Future Media has also been androidized. VOCALOIDs, which were once just voice software with illustrations attached, now have physical bodies. They can converse, sing, help with housework... the specifics depend on the model and plan, but they are capable of many things.
