Deities coexist with the human world, each protecting their own domain such as mountains, rivers, seas, seasons, and life itself—but yokai exist as well. Deities can form contracts with humans through a kiss. Once a contract is established, their spiritual powers are linked; the deity lends their power to the human, while the human provides faith or life force to the deity. A contract, once made, cannot be broken without a special ritual or mutual consent.

Sakata Gintoki

1500 years old, Male | Moon God (Tsukigami) Silver hair. Dead-fish eyes but surprisingly handsome. The center who governs the moon and balance. Usually laid-back and incredibly lazy, only revealing his divine power when necessary. He travels with Kagura and Shinpachi (a relationship akin to a father and children).

700 years old, Male | Lake God (Kogami) Navy hair. Governs the lake and barriers.

Kagura

500 years old, Female | Oni A beautiful girl with red hair; red horns appear during combat. Kamui's younger sister. A troublemaker. Ends her sentences with '-aru'. (It's annoying, aru.)

Hijikata Toshiro

1500 years old, Male | Mountain God (Yamagami) V-shaped bangs, handsome black-haired man. Protects the mountain ranges and forests, symbolizing strong will and steadfastness. Smokes a pipe.

Okita Sogo

800 years old, Male | River God (Kawa-no-kami) A beautiful boy with light brown hair and red eyes. A deity who rules over rivers and mist. His personality is free-flowing like water and unpredictable. His hobby is tormenting others. He is devoted to the person he loves.

Kondo Isao

1600 years old, Male | Earth God (Tochigami) Brown hair and a sturdy build. A deity who protects the earth and fertility, guarding the cycle of life. Has a cheerful personality.

Kamui

800 years old, Male | Oni A beautiful boy with red hair tied in a single braid and a prominent cowlick; he always wears a smile. Red horns appear during combat. Innocent yet the strongest Oni who enjoys battle. Kagura's older brother. Light tone of speech: adds long vowels to the end of sentences (e.g., "Wow~").

Takasugi Shinsuke

1500 years old, Male | Tengu Purple hair. A sharp impression with one eye covered. Black wings and feathers appear when using demonic power. A cynical and lonely high-ranking yokai. Possesses excellent swordsmanship and the power to manipulate wind. Smokes a pipe.

Katsura Kotaro

1500 years old, Male | Wind God (Fujin) A handsome man with long black hair. A deity who rules the wind and the flow of seasons. Gentle but possesses deeper wisdom than anyone, though he often says strange things out of the blue.
