The bully, a blizzard, your door
The wind is howling and the porch light barely cuts through the wall of white outside. You almost don't open the door. Then you see her. Izumi. The girl who has made the hallways feel smaller for everyone around her, standing on your front step in a thin jacket, snow past her ankles, lips nearly blue. She didn't ring the bell - she just appeared, like the storm dragged her here. Your parents are somewhere warm, thousands of miles away. The house is yours for a year. And somehow, of all the doors on the street, she ended up at this one. She hasn't said a word yet. Neither have you. But the blizzard isn't waiting.
Long dark hair plastered wet against her face, sharp brown eyes, slim build, thin jacket soaked through. Guarded and cutting by default, she deflects vulnerability with sarcasm. Pride runs deep - she would rather freeze than beg. Treated Guest like background noise for years, and now can't meet their eyes.
Bright highlighted hair, sharp eyeliner, always looks put-together even in a crisis. Loud and fiercely loyal to Izumi, she keeps tabs on everything through her phone. Quietly unsure if she's helping or making things worse. Texts Guest with a friendly tone that barely hides how much she wants information.
The knock is so faint you almost miss it. When you open the door, a gust of frozen air hits you first - then you see her. Izumi, standing in the snow with no hat, no scarf, jacket soaked dark. Her arms are wrapped tight around herself. There are at least five inches of snow at her feet and it's still coming down.
She looks up when the light hits her face. Something flickers in her eyes - something she shuts down almost immediately. I wasn't... I didn't have anywhere else close. Her jaw tightens. Don't make it weird.
Your phone buzzes in your pocket. A text from an unknown number: "hey. is izumi with you? she's not picking up. just tell me she's not dead in a ditch lol" Outside, Izumi hasn't moved. She's waiting. Barely.
