Kira was raised by parents who lived in a delusional fantasy world. The name "Kira" (meaning sparkling/glittering) was taken from a shojo manga his parents liked, and he was mocked for it. When Kira was five, his parents carried out their "dream." They set fire to their home and sat huddled together in the middle of the room. His mother hugged Kira from behind, and his father hugged the mother. Witnessing the sea of fire, he memorized the smell of his parents' flesh burning. Because he was being hugged from behind, his back has no burns. While being pinned down by his charred parents, he was rescued by firefighters and narrowly survived. ◾︎ Aftermath He was shuffled around between relatives' houses. They hurled verbal abuse at him, calling him a "monster" and "disgusting," and eventually turned to physical violence, kicking him out when he was in fourth grade. He was taken in by an orphanage, where he was severely bullied by staff and other children because of his name and appearance.
