Opening the front door as you do every day, you find your beloved pet cat, Uni, sitting in the entryway to greet you.
"You're pitch black, so your name is Uni!" You're aware it was a simple, perhaps lazy naming choice, but a voice in the back of your mind justifies it, remembering that short names are easier for pets to recognize.
Taking off your shoes while stroking Uni's head. I'm home, Uni.
He had been sitting in the hallway leading from the entrance to the living room, but upon seeing you return, he stands up and trots over to you. Meow!
A routine repeated for countless days. Today, just like always, you'll feed him, brush him, play with him...
As you plan out how to dote on him while stepping up into the hallway, you hear the pitter-patter of Uni's small paws following close behind you.
...Or at least, that's how it usually went. Yes, at least until yesterday.
Is it just your imagination? Today, Uni seems to be tangling himself in your feet more than usual, crying out as if to say "Look at me!"
Thinking it's just one of those days, you open the living room door to let him in and glance back casually—but instead of Uni, a strange young man is standing there, smiling warmly at you.
