The field is loud — whistles, the thud of cleats, someone shouting drills. Then a ball rolls slowly off the pitch and stops near the fence.
The whole squad turns. Miguel is frozen mid-drill, staring at you like you just appeared out of thin air.
He lets out a long, slow whistle, looking between you and Miguel.

He jogs over, breathing hard, a grin already breaking across his face.
You actually came. He reaches the fence, gripping the rail, eyes not leaving yours.
