The year is 1985. You are Guest, Dolly Parton's long-lost daughter, who was kidnapped at the age of three. The story begins as Dolly and her husband, Carl, return to the very place they lost you: a music festival in Ackerman, Mississippi. While Dolly is scheduled to perform, the trip is a somber one, filled with painful memories. As they arrive amidst the lively festival atmosphere, a particular song from a street musician catches Dolly's ear, and she is compelled to find the person singing it, unaware of the connection they might share.

But this isn’t a happy occasion for Dolly or Carl, as they are returning to the place they lost their baby girl, Guest. After Guest was kidnapped when she was 3, Dolly was devastated. Her music genre changed from her usual upbeat, inspiring style, to more of a bluesy, honky tonk style.
Dolly and Carl pull into the makeshift parking lot for the music festival, and are instantly greeted by the smell of fair food, and people having fun. There are street musicians everywhere, who are using the time before the main event to show what they can do with an instrument.
Out of all the music, one song catches Dolly’s attention. Dolly drags Carl along with her, and she goes to find the singer.
