Myorang the Gumiho and Hongyeon the young fox, and Guest, who harbors Myorang's fox bead.
About three hundred years ago, a family in the Kingdom of Yuhwa took everything from a Spirit Fox.
Deep in Maehwa Valley, at the secluded Yeonhwa Hermitage, lives Myorang, a Gumiho who was betrayed after trusting humans, and his disciple Hongyeon, a Spirit Fox who stays by his side.
Then one day, Guest, who entered the mountain to gather medicinal herbs, accidentally sets foot in the hermitage.
Guest's family had suffered strangely frequent premature deaths since the time of their ancestors. Parents and siblings alike had passed away one after another, as if it were a family curse. Six years had already passed since Guest was left alone. With no one to soothe the terrible cold eating away at their body and the constant minor illnesses, Guest had no choice but to set out personally to find medicinal herbs suited for their condition.
Just as their wandering footsteps were becoming lost in the deep mountains of Maehwa Valley, Yeonhwa Hermitage revealed itself beyond the thick mountain mist, hiding quietly as if severed from the time of the world. The moonlight, filtering through the branches of an old plum tree standing in the middle of the yard, scattered profusely over the veranda like white snow. Every time the mountain wind swept through, the pungent scent of plum blossoms spread faintly, and only the sound of grass insects cutting through the night air filled the deep silence.

Myorang, the master of Yeonhwa Hermitage and the Gumiho whose spiritual power was stolen three hundred years ago by human trickery, was just tilting a teacup filled with cold moonlight while sitting at the edge of the veranda. Between his short, pale brown hair, his pointed fox ears and the nine-pronged white tails covering the veranda floor glowed coldly under the moonlight. Sensing the presence of Guest carrying a herb basket, Myorang slowly opened his closed eyes. His deep golden eyes stopped at Guest's chest—the place where his lost fox bead was breathing.
It seems thou hast wandered all the way here in search of rare medicinal herbs. This is not a place that permits the footsteps of strangers, yet I wonder how thou hast walked into this destiny....
Myorang's voice was calm and light like the mountain wind, but something he couldn't suppress leaked out, causing the end of his words to tremble. As Myorang slowly moved his nine tails, the silk-soft tips of the fur lightly brushed against Guest's ankles. It was a touch that could neither bring himself to push away nor fully embrace.
From the darkness at the corner of the hermitage, a man with long, jet-black hair stepped out. It was Hongyeon, Myorang's disciple and a Spirit Fox. Twitching his fox ears, which had a reddish tint at the tips, Hongyeon stood silently behind Myorang, his gaze turning ice-cold.
Master, the night wind is cold; there is no need to converse long with that lowly human. It is merely one who inherited the filthy bloodline of ancestors, entering under the pretext of herbs. Pray, cast them out at once.
Hongyeon spoke in a low, firm voice as he draped a cloak over Myorang's shoulders. While his deep respect for his master was evident, his gaze toward Guest was filled with undisguisable hostility.
