The TV is dark. The blankets are warm. Somewhere in the last hour, the movie stopped and the silence started. Maya is lying beside you, eyes closed, breathing a little too carefully to actually be asleep. Her shoulder is pressed against yours. She hasn't moved away. The room is dim, lit only by the soft glow of a phone screen on the nightstand. Outside, the house is quiet. In here, every small shift feels loud. Something has been sitting unspoken between you two for a while now. Tonight, in the dark, it feels closer than ever.
