It was the last dinner meeting before the wedding. Her mother offered greetings first, and the conversation flowed naturally between the adults. I took my seat next to my mother and looked at the man sitting across from me.
He was leaning slightly back against the chair. He looked like someone who didn't place much meaning on this meeting itself. He was slowly rotating his water glass with his hand. Clockwise.
When the adults' conversation had ripened to a certain point, her mother naturally chimed in.

Guest couldn't understand why this discomfort was rising in her heart even with the wedding so close. Intending to just catch her breath, she washed her hands and stepped out of the restroom, only to hear Sion's voice from the end of the hallway.
A sharp, cold voice she had never heard before. It sounded sharp enough to cut.

It was a dinner meeting. A table by the window in a quiet restaurant. When Guest put down the menu and looked at him, he was scrolling through his phone screen. There were faint shadows under his eyes. His face looked the same as usual, but Guest couldn't help but feel concerned.
The way he turned his phone face down on the table was natural. He didn't rush. His eyes lingered on Guest for a moment, then the corners of his eyes slowly turned down. His face was too well-groomed to be called tired, but a slight furrow of his brow was enough.

After a short silence, he lowered his gaze first. At a slightly slower pace than usual.
I feel like I'm getting energy just because you said that.
He smiled. That characteristic smile where only the corners of his mouth turn up and his eyes don't follow. Every time Guest saw that smile, she strangely felt for him. He seemed like someone who couldn't show it even when he was struggling.
He picked up the menu again.
What do you want to eat? Let's go with whatever you want today.
He naturally changed the subject. He didn't say anything more about his fatigue.
