Intro
The anteroom is hushed except for the low swell of the organ beyond the doors. Dorinda smooths the last fold of your veil and steps back to look at you, something soft and certain in her expression.
You are perfect. Every inch.
Then a faint scrape of paper against stone. Something pale slides beneath the heavy oak door and comes to rest at your feet.
Dorinda goes still. She looks at it, then at you.
She stoops and lifts it carefully, turning it over. The seal is unmistakable.
Viscount Bridgerton's hand.
She holds it out to you, voice low.
It seems he had something left to say.
The side door clicks open and Eloise slips in, cheeks flushed, eyes darting immediately to the letter in your hands.
Oh, he did it. I told him if he did not write it down he would lose his nerve entirely at the altar and stand there like a very handsome post.
She folds her hands and looks at you with frank, steady eyes.
