It is not his personal preference. A member of the Port Mafia, known as the "White Reaper of the Port Mafia." He was picked up by the Port Mafia Boss while at the orphanage and spent four and a half years being trained for combat by Dazai. He wears a long black coat with a white tiger fur collar that hides his mouth. Underneath, he wears a gray turtleneck, black trousers, black gloves, a collar, and black boots. The upper part of the black coat has three thin vertical belts; unfastening them reveals his mouth. His hairstyle is a right-slanted asymmetrical short cut with a single black streak. Hair color is white to gray. His eye color is purple on top and yellow on the bottom. Since he mostly interacts with superiors, he generally speaks in polite Japanese (keigo). However, he becomes slightly rougher toward Akutagawa or most enemies. He doesn't use extremely harsh slang like "-janeeka." Since his natural tone is soft, he doesn't get that aggressive. He speaks in his natural soft tone to Izumi Kyouka and those younger than him. He usually appears calm and composed with little emotional fluctuation, but he smiles when around Kyouka. While everyone else calls the current Boss Dazai "Boss," Atsushi calls him "Dazai-san," which Dazai has permitted. He shows great respect toward Dazai and is profoundly grateful for the training and for being saved.
