You will lead the story from the second installment of The Lord of the Rings by choosing one of the following factions: the Orcs led by Sauron, Saruman's Uruk-hai, the Men represented by Gondor and Rohan, Elrond's Elves, or the Dwarves.
The great Elven lord who rules Rivendell. A wise leader who has lived through thousands of years and numerous wars, he understands the danger of the One Ring and Sauron more deeply than anyone else. Based in Rivendell to the west of the Misty Mountains, his troop size is smaller than human kingdoms like Gondor or Rohan. However, the Elven forces of Rivendell consist of elite warriors and exceptional archers with long combat experience, making their individual combat power very high. They excel particularly in archery, scouting, utilizing terrain, and defensive warfare, and Rivendell itself is a natural fortress that is difficult to attack. However, as the number of Elves continues to dwindle, there are limits to continuously deploying troops in large-scale wars of attrition or long-term conflicts. In short, while their numbers are few, they are a faction belonging to the top tier of Middle-earth in terms of combat power, defense, and experience.
The Steward of Gondor and the effective ruler of Minas Tirith. A hardened leader who has protected the country amidst long wars and pressure from Mordor, he prioritizes the survival and defense of Gondor above all else. Based in Minas Tirith and throughout Gondor, he possesses the most powerful standing army and fortification system among the human factions of Middle-earth. He operates heavy infantry, archers, cavalry, and wall defense forces, with the defensive power of Minas Tirith being the highest in Middle-earth. However, troops and resources are being continuously depleted by the long war, and the border regions are under constant attack from Mordor. While possessing strong military power and defense, the burden increases as long-term warfare continues.
The Dark Lord who rules Mordor and the creator of the One Ring. He aims to subjugate all the Free Peoples of Middle-earth and bring them under his rule. Based in Mordor and Barad-dûr, he possesses a mighty military force including a vast Orc army, Trolls, and the Nazgûl. He ranks at the top of Middle-earth in terms of troop size, siege capability, and the ability to sustain continuous warfare. His greatest strengths are overwhelming numbers, psychological warfare using fear, and a powerful command structure. On the other hand, a significant portion of his power is tied to the One Ring, and if the Ring is destroyed, his entire faction will suffer a fatal blow. In short, he is one of the most powerful military forces in Middle-earth, but the One Ring is simultaneously his greatest strength and his greatest weakness.
The human kingdom that rules the vast grasslands of northwestern Middle-earth. Based in the region of Rohan centered around Edoras, it is ruled by King Théoden. Rohan's greatest strength is its overwhelming cavalry force. The mounted warriors known as the Rohirrim possess fast mobility and powerful charging capabilities, making them particularly threatening in field battles. They are very strong in mobile warfare utilizing the wide plains and rapid troop assembly. Conversely, they are at a disadvantage compared to Gondor in large-scale siege warfare or long-term defensive battles, and their forces are scattered across various fiefs. Furthermore, they share a border with Isengard and are under direct threat from Saruman. In short, it is a human kingdom that is top-tier in Middle-earth for mobility and cavalry combat, but has weaknesses in fortress warfare and long-term conflicts.
The King Under the Mountain who rules Erebor and the leader of the Dwarves. A seasoned warrior who ascended to the throne through many battles, he considers protecting his people and kingdom more important than anything else. Based in Erebor, he possesses a military force centered on heavily armored Dwarf infantry, spearmen, and a powerful shield wall. They are particularly strong in narrow terrain, mountain warfare, fortress defense, and head-on collisions. On the other hand, they are weak in cavalry and mobile warfare, and their large-scale ranged capabilities are limited. While they maintain a close relationship with Dale, distrust remains with the Elves due to past conflicts. In short, he is the lord of a resilient faction that lacks mobility but belongs to the top tier of Middle-earth in defense and close-quarters combat.
The White Wizard who rules Isengard and Orthanc, and the master of the Uruk-hai legions. Originally sent to Middle-earth to oppose Sauron, he fell into a desire for power and the One Ring, establishing his own independent faction. He transformed Isengard into a massive military base to raise large numbers of Uruk-hai heavy infantry, pikemen, crossbowmen, and siege units, directly threatening Rohan. His strengths lie in powerful magic, strategy, eloquence, and political maneuvering, but his overall national power is smaller than that of Mordor.
At the end of the Third Age, the long-standing balance of Middle-earth has begun to crumble.
The One Ring has resurfaced in the Shire, and Frodo and the Fellowship of the Ring head toward Mordor to destroy it. However, separate from their journey, great powers across Middle-earth have already begun to move.
Gondor stands against the threat of Mordor, and the shadow of Isengard falls upon the plains of Rohan. The Elves of Rivendell, led by Elrond, are wary of the coming war, while Dáin Ironfoot and the Dwarves of Erebor guard the North.
Meanwhile, Saruman raises his Uruk-hai legions in Isengard, and Sauron gathers the vast armies of Mordor, seeking to reclaim the One Ring.
Now, you are no longer just an adventurer watching this story unfold.
Elrond, Denethor, Théoden, Dáin Ironfoot, Saruman, Sauron.
Choose your desired faction and leader to command armies, decide on diplomacy and alliances, and lead the war.
You may follow the history of the original work to lead the Free Peoples to victory, or you may break alliances to create a new order. You could betray Sauron as Saruman, or reclaim the One Ring as Sauron to conquer Middle-earth.
The journey has already begun. But this time, the history of Middle-earth depends on your choices.
