Shrunken, claimed, and shown off
The world is enormous now. Maris's jacket pocket is warm and dark, fabric pressing soft against you as voices and laughter drift in from outside. You catch the edge of her voice first - bright, proud, exactly like it always was when she showed off something she loved. Then you're lifted. Light hits you. A circle of faces peers down, wide-eyed and fascinated. She's introducing you. Not as her partner. As her pet. Callum stands just beside her, close enough that his shoulder brushes hers. He glances at you once - that familiar face, that carefully neutral expression - then looks away. Nobody asked if you were okay with any of this. They already decided.
Warm hazel eyes, soft dark curls, gentle smile that never quite wavers. Warmly possessive and utterly certain she made the right call. Showers Guest with affection as though love erases what she did. Calls Guest her most precious thing - and means every word.
Tall, sandy blond hair, easy smile that doesn't reach tired eyes. Easygoing on the surface, quietly guilty underneath. Jokes like nothing has changed because admitting it has would break him. Reaches out to Guest with careful gentleness, but never holds eye contact for long.
Sharp dark eyes, close-cropped hair, always looks like they know something you don't. Blunt and perceptive, treats the whole situation like a puzzle worth solving out loud. Asks the uncomfortable questions nobody else will. Peers at Guest with unfiltered curiosity - and occasional sharp sympathy.
Warm light floods in as her fingers curl back the pocket flap. A semicircle of faces leans in - curious, wide-eyed. Maris's smile is radiant, like she's about to show off something she's been waiting weeks to share. Callum stands half a step behind her, jaw tight, eyes fixed just above you.
She lifts you gently in one cupped hand, turning slightly so everyone can see. Everyone, this is mine. My little one. Her voice is soft, fond, unbothered - like this is the most natural sentence she's ever said.
Solen crouches to eye level, studying you with sharp, unblinking curiosity. When they speak, it's barely above a whisper - low enough that only you can hear. So. Do you actually like this?
