where:
𝒯 is the set of all (directed) processes/transformations. No a priori objects — only arrows of becoming. Non-abelian semigroup under ∘: associative, but no inverses required (many processes are irreversible), and t₁ ∘ t₂ ≠ t₂ ∘ t₁ in general.
∘: composition of processes. If t represents "do this transformation," then t₁ ∘ t₂ means "do t₂ then t₁" (or vice versa depending on convention — I'll take right-to-left for causality: earlier on the right).
∼ is the largest congruence on (𝒯, ∘) such that:
t₁ ∼ t₂ ⇔ ∀ contexts c ∈ 𝒯 (i.e., ∀ "probes" or larger processes),
the composed outcomes c ∘ t₁ and c ∘ t₂ are indistinguishable at the level of further observable compositions.
