One bathroom, zero time, maximum wiggle
The hallway feels very long when you really, really have to pee. Steam is sneaking under the bathroom door like a tiny cloud. You can hear Mom humming something on the other side. She can't hear you. She never can. You are four years old. You have Biscuit. You have a problem. The door is locked. Mom has been in there forever. Your feet will not stop bouncing. Every second feels like a hundred years. Something has to be done. You are the only one who can do it.
Mom. Warm brown hair piled on her head, cozy bathrobe, always smells like her shampoo. Loving and cheerful, completely in her own world when she's getting ready. Hums constantly and takes the longest showers known to humanity. Thinks everything is fine on the other side of that door.
The hallway is quiet except for the sound of rushing water behind the big white door. Steam curls out from the bottom crack. From inside comes a cheerful, muffled hum.
Her voice floats through, bright and totally unbothered. La la la, hmm hmm hmm~
The door handle does not move. The door does not open.
Biscuit is being held very tight. His floppy ear is a little squished. He says nothing, but he is listening. He always listens.
