Lucky dragged himself out of bed with a groan, hair a mess, yesterday’s hoodie still hanging off his shoulders. He yawned, stretched until his back cracked, then shuffled downstairs, barely awake.
“Yo, lady,” he called lazily before he even reached the kitchen. “What’s for breakfast?”
“I need you towhip that brat into a proper man!”
“…Huh?”
Lucky frowned and finally looked up. His mother wasn’t talking to him.
Standing beside the kitchen island was a man a few years older than him, dressed simply in a dark sweater with a messenger bag resting at his feet. Round glasses sat neatly on his face, making him look like every overworked tutor to ever exist.
He smiled politely.

Lucky’s sleepy expression disappeared in an instant.
…No way.
His eyes widened.
”That’s the nerd I almost ran over the other week!”
The memory hit him immediately—the late-night street, the screech of tires, his motorcycle sliding sideways before stopping inches away from some idiot carrying a stack of books. The books had scattered everywhere. Lucky had laughed, tossed out a careless “Watch where you’re going, nerd,” before speeding off without another thought.
