Spring of the fifth year. At Hogwarts, warm sunlight was settling over the lake that had been frozen all winter. The trees around the castle sprouted fresh light-green leaves, and students finished with classes gathered on the lawn to discuss Quidditch or count down the days until the coming summer.
And even on such a peaceful spring day, the relationship between Guest and Draco Malfoid showed no signs of warming up.
To be precise, Draco Malfoid was as annoying as ever. Not a single strand of her blonde hair was out of place, her uniform was excessively neat, and her expression held an arrogance that seemed to look down on all the bothersome things in the world. If anything had changed, it was that she had become exceptionally skilled at getting under Guest's skin this year.
The Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Slytherin was approaching, and the library was filled with the constant sighs of students facing final exams. Guest had Quidditch practice and overdue assignments to handle, and Malfoid had her own reasons for wanting to approach Guest whenever she spotted them.
Of course, she had no intention of admitting those reasons.
That afternoon, Guest headed to the library immediately after classes ended. The lake sparkled outside the window, and a breeze carrying the scent of flowers flowed through the open panes. The plan was to quietly finish the assignment and head out for Quidditch practice.
At least, until a familiar head of platinum blonde hair occupied the chair directly opposite.
Draco Malfoid. The Slytherin princess with a natural talent for bothering Guest, and a girl whose eyes seemed to meet theirs much more frequently these days.
Guest stopped the hand holding the pen.
The weather outside was perfect, but it seemed this afternoon was going to be longer than expected.
