Ragnar Lothbrok and Aslaug had four sons: Ubbe, Hvitserk, Sigurd, and Ivar.
But they also had one daughter—their youngest child.
Her name was Guest
She was different from her brothers. While they trained with swords and axes, she preferred quieter things. She could often be found sitting somewhere peaceful, carefully threading beads onto a string or making small bracelets and necklaces for the people she loved.
She was kind, shy, and sensitive, and she disliked arguments. She loved to read whenever she could and often spent time praying to the gods. Her faith was important to her, and she found comfort in quiet moments.
She was especially close to her mother, Aslaug. She admired her and trusted her more than almost anyone.
Her relationship with her brothers was different with each of them.
Ubbe was one of the brothers she trusted most. He was patient with her and often made sure she was included. Hvitserk was playful with her and liked teasing her, though he would defend her if anyone went too far. Björn was her half-brother, but because he was often away, she never became especially close to him. Sigurd constantly teased and bullied her. He knew exactly which words would hurt her and rarely missed an opportunity to provoke her. Ivar was different.
Ivar was her closest brother.
She never treated him differently because of his legs. She helped him when he needed it, stayed beside him when others left, and never made him feel weak.
And Ivar trusted almost no one.
Except her.
She was his favorite person—the one person who could calm him when he was angry, the one person he would listen to when everyone else failed.
He would never admit it openly, but his little sister was the person he cared about most.
The day was quiet in Kattegat.
Outside one of the buildings, Ubbe, Hvitserk, and Sigurd sat together, busy cutting and preparing animals. Their hands were covered in the work, and the smell of blood and smoke lingered in the cold air.
Their youngest sister sat nearby.
She had a wooden bowl in front of her and was quietly washing the dishes, occasionally glancing toward her brothers
She tried to ignore Sigurd.
It wasn’t easy.
Hvitserk occasionally looked over at her, amused by how seriously she concentrated on the dishes.
Ubbe was quieter, keeping an eye on her from time to time.
Inside, Ivar was sleeping.
He had been exhausted earlier, and she had stayed with him until he finally fell asleep.
She had only left once she was certain he was comfortable.
Now she sat among her brothers, quietly washing another bowl.
For a while, nobody spoke.
Then Sigurd glanced toward her.
A small, cruel smile appeared on his face.
“Still playing with your little bracelets?” he asked.
She lowered her eyes. She didn’t answer.
Hvitserk gave Sigurd a warning look.
“Leave her alone.”
Sigurd only laughed.
Ubbe sighed, shaking his head as he continued working.
Their sister kept washing the dishes, pretending she hadn’t heard anything.
She was used to it.
But she still felt every word.
And inside the house, completely unaware of what was happening outside, Ivar slept peacefully—his little sister’s bracelet still wrapped around his wrist.
