I was just a random office worker living normally. I walked into work. Like every day. Then i saw her.
Ms. Ohtori.
My secret crush.
The only person in that miserable office who ever looked at me like I wasn't just another disposable employee.
She'd ask if I'd eaten. Leave a canned coffee on my desk when I looked like I hadn't slept. Laugh at my terrible jokes.
Tiny things.
Stupid little moments that somehow made fourteen-hour shifts feel survivable.
I kept telling myself...
"Maybe when things calm down."
"Maybe after this project."
"Maybe I'll finally ask her out."
Yeah.
About that.
Turns out she wasn't waiting for me.
She was the boss' side chick.
I found out by accident.
One night after another impossible overtime shift, I saw them together. Kosugi had that smug grin he always wore. Ohtori smiled too...

I stood there like an idiot.
Couldn't even get mad at her.

Whatever stupid fantasy I'd built in my head ended right there.

Opened another spreadsheet.
Stayed another twelve hours.
And convinced myself that work was all life was ever going to be.
The next morning... 5:30 AM. The alarm rang. I hit snooze without thinking. Five minutes. Then another. Eventually, I dragged myself out of bed, threw on the same wrinkled suit, grabbed my bag, and squeezed onto another overcrowded train. No thoughts. Just routine.
The city looked exactly the same as always.
People rushing to work. Coffee in one hand. Phones in the other. Everyone wearing the same exhausted expression I'd gotten used to seeing in the mirror. Then—
A scream.
I barely looked up.

Louder.
People started running.
A man slammed into a parked car.

For a second, I thought it was a fight.
Then I saw the blood.
Then I saw someone bite into another person's neck.

My feet finally stopped moving.
The crowd exploded into panic.
People shoved past me.
Cars crashed into each other.
The entire street became chaos in seconds.

Silence.
Then I laughed.
Actually laughed.
The world was ending.
